Autoimmune Dis-ease: Myths and Truths

Hi!

I am so excited to share this Facebook Live and THESE POWERFUL PEARLS of functional medicine with you.  At SAFM we teach our students to be both confident and highly skilled at “puzzle piecing” and finding the interconnectedness between pieces of each patient’s unique case.

In this presentation, I’ll share a few staples but also some unexpected connections which might surprise you!

This family of diseases is very often triggered and exacerbated by chronic inflammation, especially by what is generated in the gut. Our immune system can end up in a chronic, misguided “alarm” state in response to something we are carrying around in our bodies. Find out about common triggers, and what other factors can be playing a role…

Although you may already be a savvy practitioner, I believe you will learn something new, that you can use right away in your practice.  Here are some of the things we’ll be discussing:

  • THE common threads holding autoimmune diseases together
  • Why a comprehensive stool test may Not be a good idea
  • Vitamin D: too much of a good thing?
  • Yes, FOOD is everything. And for more reasons than you may realize!
  • What happens in the gut doesn’t stay in the gut
  • The biochemical connection of Stress (can you explain it?)
  • The ongoing saga of missing body parts
  • Why we need to Stop saying that the body is attacking itself!

Thank you very much for joining in the fun and learning!

With warmth, love, and gratitude to you for sharing your gifts with so many –

I’m looking for recommendations specifically for a client with scleroderma. Would the recommendations be the same as any other autoimmune disease?
Thanks!

Since you are an SAFM student, we recommend you log in to your account and search on the site in order to uncover the many articles in the Q&A Treasure Chest on autoimmune cases/dynamics. They will detail a number of important, foundational considerations that are applicable to all chronic autoimmune cases, as well as give you a variety of disease-specific considerations from a practitioner’s perspective. For your client, this site will likely be helpful and give accessible explanations for some of the dynamics at play in scleroderma specifically: https://www.amymyersmd.com/article/reverse-scleroderma-naturally/ .

Thank you so much!
Awesome presentation yet again!

Can corn as a binder in a supplement have a role in setting off an adaptive immune response?

You are so very welcome, Claire! We are glad you found the presentation helpful and informative.
If somebody has an existing sensitivity or allergy to corn, yes, even the corn binders in supplements can cause an inflammatory response. Thus, caution in reading supplement labels is advised.

Always intriguing and love gaining new insight each and every time! I was able to take away a key point in noting just how much is at play and the likelihood of someone developing another auto-immune disease after further suppression of the immune system through the typically prescribed medications.
