True Health or Not True Health

I am so excited to share this Facebook Live with you. All current practitioners – both newcomers and veterans to functional medicine science – are welcome. I bring you fresh knowledge and insight into the functional medicine interconnectedness at play with some fascinating case examples of the (often huge) difference between treating disease and reversing root causes.

At SAFM we teach our students to be both confident and highly skilled at “puzzle piecing” and finding the interconnectedness between the pieces of each patient’s unique case. This approach makes all the difference in the world in your business. Because here’s a truth you need to hear: Absence of symptoms and true health are NOT the same thing. We’ve got to be willing to dive into the detailed and unique interconnectedness for each person.

Although you may already be a savvy practitioner, I believe you will learn something new, that you can use right away in your practice.  Here are some of the things I discuss in this video:
  • The fundamental flaw that prevents conventional medicine from being effective in reversing chronic disease
  • The common mistake many practitioners make in looking for Root Causes of dis-ease (are you doing it too?)
  • Unexpected connections in hypertension: the common remedy worsens the very thing it’s supposed to be helping (this one will definitely surprise you)
  • Common conventional rapid relief intervention can even be life-threatening
  • A classic heart disease intervention actually increasing the risk of a tragic cardiovascular event
  • The most important true root causes of dis-ease that are missed – every single day! – by even savvy practitioners

Thank you very much for joining in on the fun and learning!

With warmth, love, and gratitude to you for sharing your gifts with so many,

As always, thank you Tracy for the clinical pearls you always give us. I knew that beta blockers were not intended for long term use but never knew they could disrupt the melatonin production, this explains some of the fatigue and insomnia many of my clients report. I am a RN Case Manager and a Health Coach. Also the use of steroids for crowns and UC are all to common, and now I understand that they are not helping but contributing to the problem. I actually had someone in my walking group tonight tell me that she was told to start taking calcium, without any further tests. I encouraged her to have labs drawn to determine her potassium, and magnesium levels and to see if she was balanced, and if she needed to take calcium. I love our health care providers, and like you, realize they are undereducated to handle all the chronic disease. They also do not have the time to “put the puzzle together.” I am hoping I can assist through my own practice. My plan is to be enrolled in 2019. I wish I had know about your school before I went to IIN. Not that IIN… Read more »

Your pearl videos are so valuable!! I learn so much just from these videos so I can just imagine how much I would learn in a full semester!! I just finished becoming a certified health coach with an additional gut health course. Winning a free semester would help me get started and I would love to continue on to all the core courses and deep dives! Regardless, thank you so much for those videos!!

Women are often told to take 1500 to 2000 mg of supplemental calcium to prevent further bone loss and counter osteoporosis. It is a well-known fact that this increases the risk of cardiovascular events. Calcium in food can also impair the regulation and management of vitamin K2 that directly impairs the calcification of soft tissue and helps to direct calcium into bone tissue, which is where it belongs. BAM! And there is the truth! Thanks you for this most valuable pearl ❤️

I was really surprised to hear that warfarin causes calcification. My mom was on it for years and she passed away 10 years ago with some complications. And then I got MS and I too used some non-steridol anti inflammatory, and I didn’t actually know it’s that dangerous. You really provide wonderful information and if possible next time please I would love to hear about CP if possible, as I have a son with CP. thank you so much for all this knowledge.

The whole presentation inspired me, they always do. You speak directly to my experience as a clinician all these years! “It’s the wrong toolbox!” ha ha ha . “…as opposed to dealing with the root cause”, “your autonomic nervous system is creating some serious complex MAGIC overnight!”. Yes! bringing the magic back into the medical arts. Love what I’m learning, can’t wait to learn more. It’s like moisture on a parched land. …ujs

Wow! Talk about medications! I never knew that beta blockers affect melatonin levels resulting in insomnia. I will ask my dad how’s his sleep. He’s on beta blockers for atrial fibrillation and the doctor said maybe for the rest of his life. Good grief he’s not on Coumadin. Can the atrial fibrillation be reversed?

Thank you for this one Tracy! The timing is so powerfully pertinent, as my dad very recently suffered a heart attack and the drugs used by “powerful and astute conventional medicine” in triage saved his life. My family is all incredibly grateful for the care he received and have to credit his talented doctors for the important work they do. I loved that you opened with the reminder that conventional and functional medicine each have a vital, yet very different role and approach in health care.

Today’s presentation has my head spinning though with so many connections of the effects from long-term use of medications, like blood thinners, diuretics, and statins. I’ve worked with him in the realm of diet and life-style – with some success, but he resists questioning any of his long-term targeted meds, even with some of the side effects he experiences! (fatigue, brain fog, nausea, poor sleep) I have a better understanding and confidence in how I might support him going forward.

Thank you Tracy for sharing your knowledge as you do! I am a big fan of SAFM and your Facebook Lives! I did not realize how beta-blockers interfere with sleep via the disruption of the synthesis of melatonin. I am hoping this will help me with my mom, who does sleep well at all.

I also have not asked clients about past medication use, but will do from now on. I also want to more directly ask clients why they think they are experiencing their health issues. This sometimes comes out but I want to be more forthcoming. Thank you again for your sharing and caring!

Thank you, Tracy! I was surprised to hear about the correlation between use of beta blockers and lack of melatonin levels contributing to insomnia. Also, realizing how important supplementation of magnesium is to most Americans due to the lack of it in our soil! Thank you for the wealth of info you always provide and your passion for teaching us to help clients better!

I always enjoy learning about the root causes of disease. Many times, we overlook the underlying causes of disease. It was very informative to learn about melatonin and insomnia. This is something that many clients suffer from, and being able to form that link is very valuable.

I have been listening to tracy for a few months now and I love the way she explain things and make very complex themes very easy to understand. She is very knowledgeable, kind and smart person and she is right I have been doing some research about different Functional medicine schools and trainings and SAFM seems to have all what I am looking for, the curriculum and content looks awesome, and the price is pretty good for all what is offered compared to other trainings. I am really considering to enroll myself for the upcoming semester this September 2018 or early next year. In the meantime I look forward to see more videos from Tracy!

Loved the explanations sharing the interconnectedness of diuretics, beta blockers, the NA/K balance and how blood thinners can directly lead to arterial calcification. Can’t wait to start the program next month!!

Since Beta Blockers are so widely used, it’s really important that people know the basic things they can do that can improve their quality of life. I didn’t know about all of the nuggets of wisdom you shared so I’m really grateful that you share so much valuable information! I could listen to you for hours. I hope to join in the future and keep learning. Thank you!

Were do I begin in regards the this live, You pack so much information in them.
I have been a health coach for 4 years and retaining information is difficult for me You explain this so simply that I remember it all and utilize it in my coaching. I’ve been wanting to take your course, but I haven’t had the time or money, I would love to be able to take your course, it,would bring my practice to a whole other level to helping so many people.

Wow so much was covered….Tracy’s knowledge and passion and energy to share is stagering.
One awesome piece of info that was not new but needs to be repeated is that meds should be used short term for triage and never long term and ALL med have multiple consequences….
My biggest question is when can I start????????
I want to know if you have a January start? I have to figure out how to take care of many clients in my practice so I can study. I have been so excited about this for the past year when I encouraged my good friend to sign up and study…and she is now almost a year in????…luckily she cont to share all with me. Thank you and I so want to wish me luck????hugs to Tracy and all the amazing work and training that is elevating human life to thrive!!!!!!!
